World Psoriasis Day is officially observed on October 29—a day when the global psoriasis community unites to raise awareness, increase understanding, and call for meaningful action from governments and institutions worldwide. This day brings attention to the needs of people living with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, advocating for improved care and support. Here in Malaysia, we are gathered today at KL Gateway Mall to share this global mission.
Psoriasis is still too often seen as "just a skin disease" or merely a cosmetic issue. This misunderstanding arises from a lack of public awareness. In reality, psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis are complex, lifelong conditions that affect the whole body. They can significantly increase the risk of other serious diseases, including heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and other comorbidities.
For those of you living with this condition, a positive mindset is one of the most important parts of treatment. Staying optimistic in the face of a chronic illness like psoriasis can be difficult, especially when negative thoughts start to take over. This is where the support of family becomes essential—not only in helping manage treatments but in creating a loving, supportive, and positive environment for patients. Today, we’ll hear from our specialists about the ways family support can make a real difference.
This year’s theme, "Healthy Skin, Happy Family," highlights just that—the vital role family plays in managing and caring for those with psoriasis. Living with psoriatic disease can be challenging, not just for those directly affected but also for their families. It’s important to recognize that these challenges are shared, and families are key partners in providing the emotional and practical support patients need.
On behalf of PAM, I would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our sponsors, who have made this event possible. My deepest thanks also go to our dedicated PAM members who have worked tirelessly, as a true family, to make celebration a reality. With just nine of us managing this event, we couldn’t have done it without the generous support of our volunteers, including the three doctors from Hospital Kuala Lumpur who have graciously donated their time. We sincerely apologize if there are any shortcomings today and appreciate your understanding.
I would also like to thank YBrs Dato Indera Dr. Nor Azimi binti Yunus for honoring us with her presence and for delivering the opening address today despite her busy schedule.
Above all, I wish to thank each of you here today, the speakers, our poetry presenters, as well as our generous sponsors—especially Novartis, Pan Malaysian Pools, Abbvie, DKSH, Leo Pharma, J&J, Boehringer Ingelheim, and others—for your invaluable support, both financially and in-kind. I hope that you find today’s event meaningful and that your afternoon here with us is time well spent.
So, please sit back, enjoy, and take this time to connect and share.
Terima kasih.
