Dear Fellow Psoriatic Patients and Friends,
I trust this message finds you very well.
In the coming days, the Psoriasis Association of Malaysia (PAM) will be commemorating World Psoriasis Day 2025 with two significant events.
A. PAM’s World Psoriasis Day 2025 Event (November 1, 2025)
Our flagship awareness event will take place on:
Date: Saturday, November 1, 2025
Time: 1.30 – 5.00 pm
Venue: Level 2, Sunway Velocity, Cheras
This year’s theme, “Psoriatic Disease and Comorbidities – Understanding the Domino Effect,” emphasizes the wider health risks linked to psoriasis and the importance of early intervention. The event will empower patients, families, and the public with knowledge, while also fighting stigma and advocating for better healthcare access.
The programme will include:
• Family fun activities
• Photography exhibition
• Free skin consultations
• Virtual Reality (VR) Games
• Patient Sharing stories
You and your family are warmly invited to join us for this meaningful day of learning, advocacy, and community. Please feel free to bring friends and neighbours so they too can better understand psoriasis—while enjoying a vibrant, supportive, and fun-filled event.
We look forward to welcoming you, your family, and friends on November 1, 2025.
B. World Psoriasis Day in Parliament (November 18 -20, 2025)
For the first time, PAM will bring World Psoriasis Day into the hallowed corridors of Parliament of Malaysia, with the aim of engaging directly with lawmakers to advocate for stronger policies and resources for psoriasis care.
Many policymakers are still unaware that psoriatic disease—including psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis—affects 2–3% of Malaysians (around 300,000 Malaysians). This is not merely a skin or joint condition; it is a lifelong systemic disease linked to heart disease, diabetes, disability, and serious social consequences. Yet in Malaysia, it remains underdiagnosed, undertreated, and often misunderstood.
At our booth in Parliament, PAM will share educational materials, policy briefs, and patient stories. Parliamentarians will also be invited to pledge their support for the psoriatic community by signing on an art canvas.
Through this initiative, we hope to highlight some of the key challenges facing our community:
• Delayed diagnosis and mismanagement, especially in rural areas.
• Limited access to effective treatments, particularly biologics (only 4.4% of patients in Malaysia receive them, compared to 71% in Singapore).
• Stigma and misunderstanding, leading to discrimination and isolation.
• Lack of holistic care, involving dermatology, rheumatology, and mental health.
• Inadequate insurance coverage, leaving families with high out-of-pocket costs.
These challenges affect not only patients and families, but also Malaysia as a whole—through lost productivity, higher healthcare costs, and social consequences such as disrupted education, employment, and family life. Better care can also reduce the burden of related non-communicable diseases.
Our core message to lawmakers is simple: No psoriatic patient should be left behind in our journey toward a healthier and more inclusive Malaysia.
AbbVie and Novartis are supporting us in this Parliament activity
(Note: This Parliament activity is a closed-door event, limited to parliamentarians and media representatives, and is therefore not open to membersor the public.)
Thank you.
